The Lagoon in Welwyn Garden City is a widely-valued community asset. However, the body of water itself has long been in a pretty poor state - it's silted over, it gives off an unpleasant smell, and has numerous pieces of litter floating in it. Furthermore, the area surrounding the lagoon is in need of a serious clean-up.
Having chaired a meeting with Ka Ng, Chief Executive of Welwyn Hatfield Council, and Jake Morley, the Local Government Lead from Thames Water, I am pleased that positive progress is being made towards improving the lagoon. Following pressure from myself, Thames Water are looking into changing their maintenance schedule of the lagoon’s surface water network from annually to either half yearly or quarterly. Meanwhile, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council will be looking into improving the condition of the land surrounding the lagoon.
I want to know what you think - so I'd be really grateful if you could complete my survey about the Lagoon. This will help me inform the Council and Thames Water about residents' view on the lagoon so I can ensure those responsible are managing it in the best interests of local people.
