A1000 Speed Limit: Have Your Say

Some local residents have expressed concern that the 70mph speed limit on the stretch of the A1000 running between the A1M and the Bessemer Road roundabout is too high. There have been many accidents on the road in recent years and this is something that needs looking into.

I recently visited Sherrardswood School, which sits on this stretch of the A1000, to discuss with Headteacher Mrs Wright, parents Mrs Coe and Mrs Barranes, pupils and other members of the school community their concerns about the road. They expressed how dangerous the high speed limit makes journeys to and from the school and have been campaigning to get the speed limit lowered for a number of years.

The situation has become so bad that the school is discouraging parents, pupils, and staff from walking or cycling to school due to the risk the road presents.

Having heard residents and the school community’s concerns, I think it's worth investigating whether a change in the speed limit would be a good idea. These decisions should always be community-led, so I want to know what you think. Do you think the speed limit on the stretch of the A1000 between the A1M and the Bessemer Road roundabout should be reduced? Let me know your preferred option below.
