I know that the speed limit on the B197 has been a matter of concern for Oaklands and Woolmer Green residents - as well as pupils and parents of Oaklands Primary School and St. Michael’s Primary School - for quite some time.
I’ve been pushing for a reduction in the speed limit on the stretches past the schools for a number of years, and I’m writing to let you know I still am. It’s vital to ensure everything possible is being done to minimise risk to road users and people walking to and from to and from the school.
You may be aware of Herts County Council’s recent public consultation about making the roads around the schools safer. To push this issue along further, I’m working with your local county councillor to hold another consultation on the matter later this year. The hope is to bring a new 30mph speed limit on the stretches of the road nearest to the primary schools and to encourage both walking and cycling options.
I’m keen to know what you think - it’s important these decisions are always community-led, and the more people who demonstrate their feelings on the issue, the stronger our case becomes.
Therefore, I’d be very grateful if you could share your views about road safety and whether the speed limit should be reduced by taking part in the short survey below.
Your input will be really crucial in demonstrating to Herts County Council the strength of local feeling on this issue.
